Preparing for the Sacraments

Preparing for Baptism
A pre-baptismal meeting is required for first-time parents to help gauge a better understanding and grasp the full meaning of the Sacrament. Meetings may be scheduled on an individual basis by calling the parish office. Godparents are also encouraged to attend.

Preparing for Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is held every Saturday from 3:00 – 3:30 PM or by individual appointment. Appointments may be made by calling the parish office. The Reconciliation room is located ton the right side as you enter the church worship space.

As part of the catechism program, children typically make their first Reconciliation in second grade prior to their First Holy Communion.

Preparing for Holy Communion
In Holy Communion we receive the body, blood, and soul that Jesus Christ gave to us by his eternal sacrifice. It is through this powerful union with Jesus that helps to strengthen us against sin and unite us to His Church.

Who can receive Holy Communion?
Following careful preparation, children typically receive First Holy Communion in second grade. Children must first receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, so they may make their First Communion with a pure heart. Catholic adults free of serious sin may receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Preparing for Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation unites us more reverently to the Church and helps strengthen us through the gift of the Holy Spirit. Students begin preparation for Confirmation in 7th or 8th grade through monthly meetings, retreats, and an interview with the pastor.   Confirmation is held jointly between St. Maria Goretti and Mary, Our Lady of Peace every other year.

Preparing for Marriage
For registered members of the parish, arrangements for the Sacrament of Marriage should begin at least 6 months prior to the scheduled marriage date. Please call the parish office to schedule an appointment.

Preparing for Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is administered to help strengthen those in need, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Through the Holy Spirit, the rite is a sign of God’s grace for the recipient. If you or someone you know is homebound or in an in-patient facility and would like to receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, please call our parish office.
